The book is short but very helpful and informative. I took a formal training in MI, but before I did, I read this book. It allowed me to better understand and be prepared for the training. I also reviewed the book afterwards for a more thorough understanding.The book by itself though is an excellent resource. If you're looking for an abbreviated version to get your toes wet in motivational interviewing,this is the book to read.

This is exactly what it claimed to be: a simple but direct instruction into motivational interviewing. I love how the author provides the instruction on a process flow, complete with self-evaluation tools and things to observe in client responses that help one know that they are successfully applying the technique, or an adjustment needs to be made. I feel very equipped to begin using these skills with the clients I serve.

A great resource for counselors and therapist who already have experience and need to upgrade thier treatment fidelity with MI.

Ernst Heinrich Haeckel (1834–1919) was renowned as one of the foremost early exponents of Darwinism. I am fascinated by the "Art Forms in Nature". The natural designs are unbelievable and amazing. There are tons of ideas for mandalas and other creations (especially beading). This book can really enhance your imagination. I gave it only four stars because I was disappointed that none of the plates are in color....only on the cover.

This is a beautiful calendar but it arrived very creased where the pages are stapled and with a large crease running up the middle. The calendar itself is what I expected, but I'm disappointed in the packaging. It was inadequate for how rough shipping companies are (the packaging does say "Do Not Crease" but of course no one pays attention to that. I should have taken a photo of how creased the package was when I got it.) It needed to be reinforced better so I would have gotten an undamaged item.That said, the illustrations are beautiful and despite the damage I will keep it.

The calendar arrived in good shape. It is printed on high quality paper and the colors are clear. I've always been fascinated by the artwork of Ernst Haeckel. Hows attention to detail is unmatched and he brings to life creatures that most humans will never see. I highly recommend checking out the work of this great artist!!

Anyone who 'knows' Dover books, will probably agree that they offer good quality for very reasonable prices. There is nothing 'wrong' with this book, except that all the plates are in black and white, and there is no information on Haeckel and his times. Prestel has also published this book of plates, with a highly informative article on Haeckel, his influences, and those influenced by him included, AND with many of the plates 'in color' (that is, often one color in different -subtle - hues, or a color scheme based on two colors). Unless you are a strictly 'black and white' person, I would advise you to look for the Prestel book.

I got my first Ernst Haeckel calendar for 2017 as a gift. The prints are frame worthy. I had to get another one for this year. Prettiest calendar I've ever had.

Before ordering, I read all the reviews and became aware that many were disappointed by the fact that the plates are actually black and white rather than in color. Still I decided to go for the black and white edition. Well.. I am so happy for making up my mind against the warnings of others. Only the black and white images can fully convey the magic and power of the forms and shapes in the nature. I would expect that the colors, although beautiful, can be an obstacle to fully appreciate the actual form. I love this book, it's a real treasure!

This book is so amazing. So interesting and inspiring for art use.

the length was a let down. 192 pages is light reading. good book. I hope 3.0 is out soon since most of it was posted online already.

I like this universe concept. I enjoyed the first and I look forward to the third.I appreciate the writer’s / MC exploration and explanation of what is sin in this system.Yes MC is overpowered but he is a Sider, a massive changer, compared to non. The Idle system versus normal is a big difference.

I loved the book(s). Some say that John is op but I find it refreshing. It was well written and well edited with few mistakes that were easy to miss. I can't wait to see if a new installment will be coming my way.

I enjoyed how this novel took the grind of the first book and shoved the main character out bursting through the seams of his old life and into the great wide universe. Really really well done, highly recommended.

I like the main character he was interesting he got a little bit to judge mental at times personally I would have been More easy going The stats though is the bad thing they just overwhelm the book I think a summary would be a lot better than listing all the sets constantl. but I still will keep reading the book

What if the thefts are minor things that take someone's fancy? Or what if the theft is vital resources going to a town that'll cause the town to starve over a season? The description fails to make clear that this is a collection of essays, arranged by subject matter. Most were published originally in the New York Review of Books. Read together they result in a book choppy, turgid, and a bit repetitive in its concerns. Read individually, as originally intended, they are fine. So if you buy the book, read one at a time then put it down for a few days.These essays are forty years old now. For the most part their topics -- the nature of Indian civilization and the Indian mindset, M. Gandhi's attitudes and development, and his effect on Indian society -- remain timely. But the frequent references to the Emergency no longer have any real relevance, especially since the event is unexplained (because the NYRB's readers at the time were aware of it).

Nobel prize winner V.S. Naipaul's masterpiece on India is a must-read for any Westerner seeking a deeper understanding of India. Naipaul tells the story of this incredibly complex country person by person, through in-depth interviews of his subjects not on politics, culture or religion but on their personal lives. Naipaul tells the stories of a wide range of characters--a secretary to a prominent businessman, members of the Bombay underworld, a Marxist rebel. He tells the story of Amir, the descendant of the Raja of Mahmudabad, now living in the palace his ancestors had gotten from the British, lost after Partition, and regained after he became a successful Muslim politician in a Hindu area. And the story of Kakusthan, a modern man who returned to tradition and the life of a pure Brahmin, in a ghetto surrounded by a Muslim neighborhood. And the story of Ashok, who rejected an arranged marriage, managed to break into marketing as a career, and now struggled with the decline of the genteel, Anglo business world he had grown up in. Naipaul's great talent is in ferreting out the details of everyday life--what his people ate, wore, above all where they lived--often in tiny 10' by 10' rooms with wife and children. One comes away with a great appreciation of the notion of caste, so embedded in the society and culture for religious and non-religious alike. One also begins to appreciate what a struggle life in India is for everyone, especially those who live in cities. This book is full of stories of struggle--against tradition, to preserve tradition, between castes, between Hindu and Muslim--and of more down to earth struggles--to find a job, to find housing, to choose a career. Unfortunately Naipaul wasn't able to interview women with the ease he interviewed men--not surprising in this traditional society--and women appear only as shadowy wives and mothers in the narrative. But a great book nevertheless.

The author is very honest in his opinion. However sometimes I found him to be insensitive as he showed a tendency to undermine the feelings of people in the subcontinent in general. However, it is better to be truthful than 'politically correct'.

The country of India is of sufficient importance to all of us today that there is a real need for resources to help us develop a greater understanding, whether we are a traveler, business person working with India, or simply one interested in becoming more informed, such as myself. I don't expect that to be accomplished by only one book, so the challenge is to select a couple of volumes which together can do the job. For myself, this book is one that I have selected to help my own understanding of India.India: A Million Mutinies Now was originally published in 1990, and this edition brings it back into availability, with a new preface by the author. It is the third volume of a trilogy written by Naipaul on India, the first two being An Area of Darkness, and India: A Wounded Civilization. It does date back 20 years, and for that reason does not take into account the many developments and changes in India since that time, so if you must have something that reflects today's India in all respects, this may fall short in some ways.Author V. S. Naipaul (2001 Nobel Prize in Literature) is acclaimed both for his fiction and non-fiction. He was born in Chaguanas, Trinidad and Tobago, to parents of Indian descent. In this book, he describes India through a series of stories covering people from many castes and different backgrounds. As these various individuals stories are told, and as you begin to grasp how they deal with the day-to-day problems of living in an overcrouded country, and surviving within the caste system still in place, you find that your understanding of India is beginning to come together. It is a long book (500+ pages), full of interesting vignettes and covering a very wide variety of individuals from all walks of Indian life.If you are considering purchase of this book, then I would also refer you to the Amazon comments to the earlier 1990 edition (India: A Million Mutinies Now), which remain valid for this new printing. As alternates or supplements to this book, I would also suggest India: A Portrait, recently issued, and I am sure that there are many others. I will continue to add to this review if I do come across other books that I feel should also be mentioned.

A bunch of different folks examining or explaining the plight and the status of a great forest ridiculously being clear cut, most often for pulp. If it takes 400 years for the trees in the forest we "harvest" to grow to what they are, then obviously the sustainable harvest rate is 1/400th per year. It is not an infinite supply any more than are the fishes of the seas which man once thought were (perhaps before man began to look like an infinite supply but also is not).

Very good reading. Because it is a collection of essays, you can gets lots from this book: natural history of the region, politics, sociocultural issues. Picking a nit, this gave the book a scattered feel. Also, some chapters far superior to others, I found myself skimming thru a few aimless chapters.
