If Goodreads allowed more than 5 stars for a review I’d give Anne Blankman's debut novel, Prisoner of Night and Fog, a 6.Or maybe a 7.It’s that good.Blankman’s historical novel has it all: the underpinnings of extensive research, romance, mystery, beautiful language, rich characters, fast-pace and heart-pounding suspense, a terrific title and above all else—a great story.Can you tell I loved this book?Set in Munich, Germany in the early 1930's, this fictionalized account of the unlikely romance between Gretchen Muller, Adolf Hitler’s “pet” niece and Daniel Cohen, a handsome Jewish reporter, is a page-turner that will keep you awake at night.Out of nowhere, Daniel interrupts Gretchen’s “normal” with the information that her father’s death was not as a martyr as the Nazis have portrayed it. It was murder. When Gretchen sets out on a dangerous journey to discover the truth, her innocent reverence for Hitler (Uncle Dolf) is ripped away and she begins to see the evil underbelly of his schemes.I don’t want to spoil this book for you so I’ll just share two favorite passages, from among many.One of Gretchen's antagonists is her brother, Reinhard, who has mistreated her since childhood. When Gretchen discovers that her mother refuses to support her dream to attend a university and study to become a doctor in lieu of supporting Reinhard, she thinks:"...The decision had been made. Reinhard had gotten his way, as he always did; they were forced to circle around him like dying planets, and he the sun whose magnetic pull directed their rotation was the glowing orb that might blaze into uncontrollable brightness at any moment." (p. 79)When Daniel confronts her naivety about not seeing how Hitler planned to exterminate the Jews she remembers,"Uncle Dolf had promised their enemies would vanish into the night and fog. Just as in Goethe's famous poem Der Erlkonig, 'The Alder King.'"She had recited the poem to Uncle Dolf as they sat in the parlor together last year, sipping apple-peel tea while the old ladies knitted, and he had smiled, for he loved the tale about the super-natural being who attacked a boy held in his father's arms as they rode on horseback through the night-darkened countryside. 'My son, why do you hide your face so anxiously?' 'Father, do you not see the Alder king? The Alder King with crown and train' 'My son, it's a wisp of fog.'" (pp. 179-80)

If you liked Code Name Verity--If you liked The Book Thief--If you like well-written historical fiction, particularly of the tumultuous WWII era, I think you should give this a shot. There. That's my endorsement.This is a fantastic book and it does an amazing thing-- just when I think I've had my fill of the WWII period, something like this comes along to prove me wrong and I fall head over heels in love with it. Of all the atrocities committed during the war, this book takes its readers back a few years to before Hitler was Chancellor of Germany, and before the Nazis even held power. Back to when they were a radical group of nearly-rabid followers adoring an unbalanced if charismatic leader. Historical figures like Eva Braun, Geli Raubal (Hitler's niece), Heinrich Hoffmann, Heinrich Himmler and Hitler himself spring to life around our fictitious heroine and her family and lend a sense of credibility to a beautifully-written story.As for the fictional part of the story, Gretchen and Daniel's love story felt very natural -- both of them very cautious and the furthest thing from the instalove trope. Her mother made me want to scream, and her brother Reinhard actually terrified me more than Hitler did. Ms Blankman's pen is imbued with the feel of poetry, and I couldn't help but fall in love with her words and the world she created, even when that world was quickly becoming darker and more dangerous by the page.I can't wait to pick up a copy of this for my shelves (and reread it again!) and I'm REALLY looking forward to the sequel :)

Wow! I'm impressed that this is the authors debut novel. The amount of work and research she put into this payed off. The writing is really good as well. If you read the Authors Note at the end the you'll see how great of a job she did of weaving fictional characters in with real events and characters. This is definitely an amazing historical fiction read!At the beginning I was very unsure of how I would end up liking it, but by the end I was glad I had decided to read this. The beginning is slightly slower, but interesting enough to want to keep reading. By the end I was racing to find out what happened. Occasionally it would seem like the author was info-dumping, but it didn't happen very often so it's not enough to make me dislike the book. A great aspect was the romance. It wasn't insta love which is a plus! I thought it was very well developed and happened over a believable amount of time.Overall: This is a strong debut with very good writing. I can't wait for the sequel! I strongly recommend if you're a fan of historical fiction.

I LOVED THIS BOOK!!! I couldn't put it down and am so scared to read the next one because I don't want to ruin the ending I have pictured in my head. If you like WWII romance novels, this is a good one; it had a little bit of tension, a little bit of suspense (the OMG I need to find out what happens next even though it's 3 AM kind), and a lot of elements that are exciting as they are nerve-racking. Definitely recommend this book!

I really loved this book and the cover really caught my eye... it looked dark and haunting and when I read the description of the book, I was immediately hooked. And the story definitely didn't disappoint me...I fell in love with the main characters and could feel their pain as they struggled with their forbidden romance. The only reason why I didn't rate it 5 stars is because I did feel that some moments needed a little more of a punch line... the author did an amazing job building up the story... but there were some moments when I felt the story after being built up, fell flat. Saying that though I truly loved this book and I think having the main character be close to Hitler was a great touch! I would definitely recommend this book to my friends... which I actually already have!

This is my second 1 star review and it sucks. I know so much better commands like /enchant and you just need to hold the item you want to enchant in your hand and do /enchant whatever enchantment you want. bad Book

I liked the book but it was short, I learned some new stuff. I just learned how to get command blocks on YouTube but now know some commands!

This book doesnt offer... anything. Basically, the author went online, scribbled down some notes about commands, added some pictures, and called it a book. He is probably looking for easy money. I would rate this zero stars if i could. See ya, stupid noob author.

When I got this I thought yes, I can finally now COMPLEX commands. These commands are very simple. I appreciate your hard work but this is truly not the best.

An oldie but goodie. Still relevant after all this time.

I have been using Rabbit microprocessors for years. I started out with the Rabbit 2000 and now use the Rabbit 3000. This book addresses a lot of the problems I came across while developing software and integrating hardware for the Rabbit. I truly appreciate the authors taking the time to put together such a great book. The CD that came with the book includes all of their project's sample code and compiles the first time (unlike other publishers which require modification to compile and run properly). This book is also a great reference and will not collect dust on my bookshelf!FYI: My last robot was powered by a Rabbit 2000:[...]Have fun developing for the Rabbit 3000!

As a supplemental to the documentation for the Rabbit 3000, I found this book to be useful. In some ways, it is superior to the documentation which comes with Rabbit 3000 development kits. In particular, this book talks about the Rabbit 3000 as hardware, where the standard documentation tends to describe the processor in terms of the ample drivers supplied by Rabbit Semiconductor. The approach taken in this book is clearly more useful if you need to go straight the hardware, which is often required in embedded projects to wring out that extra performance required to make things work. Rabbit Semiconductor needs to make datasheets that document the hardware directly, as do their competitors. This book is a step in that direction.The thing I liked most about this book is that it contains real nuggets of wisdom that are applicable to any embedded project. The section of real world interfacing alone is worth the price of the book. Any one of the ideas in this chapter could easily save a project or a career. Other equally useful nuggets are scattered throughout the book.I have two small complaints about the book. First, it seems a little unfocused. Many of the "golden nuggets" I mentioned previously seem almost out of place in this book, as if the authors were attempting to cram everything they knew into this book for fear of never getting to write another. The use of unusual tools (bash and gnuplot to plot ADC characterization data) seem a bit obscure. Most developers stick with the Microsoft paradigm (Excel and/or Visual Basic) for their embedded interfacing needs. My second complaint is about the inconsistency of editing. Some of the writing is fairly crisp, but some could definitely benefit from a reading of Zinsser and a firm application of Hemingway's rule.Overall, if you're doing a Rabbit 3000 project, this book is well worth the price. If you're a serious embedded engineer who does real world interfacing, this book should still be considered for your library.

I've read a number of books like this, and this is the only one I've seen with the qualities that it has! No, I probably dont know squat, but I do know the food is fabulous. The book looks good, great pictures, the recipes look good, but I am used to them being called in their native language, and that is included too. The book has the look, size, and feel of a table top book, almost too pretty for a working book. I was disappointed in this quote "Like taco Tuesdays, and spaghetti on Wednesdays, you could have Adobo Thursdays." from East West Magazine. Not really with this book, Duck Adobo, a far cry from pork or chicken, wet or dry styles. Entirely simple 5 ingredients plus a meat. I have managed to make this dish a family favorite, everyone knows when I am cooking adobo, I never seem to have enough left over. I expected a bit more depth on a national dish. The second is Lumpia. She did give it space, the style is good. Considering the different combinations, I expected a little more information. I still think this book is a good deal anyway. Next, I will try the Whole cooked red snapper.

Gr. 4-6. George O'Connor's ongoing graphic novel series has not suffered with age; Apollo provides a fresh look at the Greek God, as told through the eyes (and varying narrative styles) of the nine Muses. Seven tales of Apollo are presented in this book, linked together by the narrators' interactions. As entertaining as the story is -providing a look at the darker sides of the sun god - the real gem of the series continues to be the back-matter O'Connor includes in each volume. Notes on the panels and information about historical aspects abound and create the perfect marriage of entertainment and education. Each volume of the series can stand alone, but an added pleasure is seeing how the stories overlap and interact. A very good choice for book clubs and a savvy way to introduce classical history to the Percy Jackson fans.

This book is a fantastic deal for such an exceptional quality book (this is my translation of what my 9-year-old son said "this book is so cheap for being so good!"). These are instant favorites for my 3rd grade twin boys and are a great supplement for their love of the Percy Jackson series. Great, super speedy, delivery of high quality books.

Another fantastic read from George O'Connor, Apollo brings a new flavor to the series while still capturing the spirit of the other books. It builds its stories and characters off of the stories and characters from the previous books and definitely shows that O'Connor has a well planned and thought out vision for the series. The storytelling is more like the style of Poseidon, in that it hops around a lot and tells many stories that all help show the main point of the character. Unlike Poseidon, all the stories directly involve Apollo and he is front and center for most if not the entirety of the novel. Not my favorite of the series but still a solid book definitely worth checking out.

Good quality graphic novel. The artwork in these is fantastic. I don't read them myself, but my family says they're great.

This was an awesome graphic novel and it arrived in good working condition. And I recommend this book to those who like Greek Mythology.

Bought this for my 8 year old grandson and he loved it. He is even able to use it in his reading requirements for school. I have now purchased the complete set and preordered the latest one to ship later. I cannot get them soon enough for my grandson.

I can't keep this series on my classroom bookshelves at all! My students are flying through them and constantly ask for more books!

This could have been a feature article in a magazine with the test at the end, but it's a book with so much fluff that I ended up scanning a lot of it. Anyway, the idea of the "love languages" I believe has a lot of truth. I'm glad I read this book and I suppose if it will save some marriages it's worth going through the fluff.

The book was pretty good, it had some valid points and learning that there are different ways that people express their love was important. What I think pulled away from the book was the underlying religious agenda to preach about God. It totally turned me off And I thought it was completely unnecessary to deliver the message. Of course if you are a religious person then this would be right up your alley.

I stopped reading at the part where the author recommended a woman to sleep with her husband against her will. WTF? Highly triggering for sexual abuse and domestic violence survivors.Also, the book reads like it’s written for white Christians. And for men who don’t want a partnership, but rather want to coerce their wife into being their sexually subservient housemaid/servant because they just don’t like vacuuming and can‘t afford hiring a cleaner („I thought I get myself a wife for that“).So if you’re a white Christian man or woman who likes to be a little housewife, yes, this book‘s for you.Besides that, the book offers solid scientific facts such as man‘s sex drive being dominated biologically by sperm pressure; that women‘s sex drive is purely emotional and not driven by their bodies; and more.

I have just started to read this book. In the Acknowledgments, I noticed this, "If all wives loved as she does, fewer men would be looking over the fence." How about "If all husbands loved as he does, fewer women would be looking over the fence."? I am serious.

It is definitely a good book for couples and it has improved my relationship with my wife. If nothing else it shows you what things your partner is really looking for out of their spouse. I quickly found that my love language was "Acts of Service". Though it might not be sexy or macho to say that, it means more to me to have the dishes and laundry done when I come home after work or have minor home improvements taken care of before I get home. My wife and I have 2 small children and our house is hard to stay clean because every room feels like a mess. We do clean it all the time but it feels like a losing battle. My wife's love language is "Words of Affirmation". As you can tell from all these Amazon reviews I am much more of a writer than I am a talker. My wife is always looking for me to say how much I love and appreciate her because I don't say it often enough.A big part of improving your relationship with your spouse or boyfriend/girlfriend is to sticking with a date night to make sure you have quality time together. Especially if you have children or a high stress occupation. My wife and I have been together for 10 years and got stuck in the rut of an endless routine of doing everything we could for our kids, followed by daily chores and left little time for ourselves. Committing to 1 date night a week has really helped our relationship and improved our communication.I recommend the book for sure and found it inspiring and worth reading. All couples can benefit from reading this book. The only downside is I wish it could have been a little longer. The stories from the author are interesting and I would have liked to have heard a bunch of his other examples of couples that he has dealt with. It was a short book and my wife and I finished it in 4 or 5 days and that was reading it slowly. The price is easily affordable. I found it best to photo copy the test quiz at the end instead of writing in the book so we can give the book to any family or friends who are struggling with their relationship.

I was once asked to read this book by the only person in the world I love.....I refused. At the time I figured it to be some shrinks opinion on how we should all be in our relationships....what the hell does he know I thought.....what if he is wrong and my future wife bases our whole future on just what he says.....I imagined this book to be some guy with opinions on how to fix problems that he knows nothing about because he doesn't know "us". It's not a good feeling as a man to agree to read a book on relationships because you feel like you're putting everything into the authors hands.....and what if he "doesn't understand" or what if the advice doesn't apply to us.....what if it makes things worse between us because he advises things we don't believe in.....no....I'm not reading that I told her.I thought no matter what we would always figure each other out and we would be ok......I didn't see being asked to read this book , was a cry out from the woman I love hitting a boiling point and her attempt to communicate to me in a different way......the same things she's been trying to for a long time.....Being close minded that day costed me so much regret and misery....I used to wake up to the most beautiful smile in the world and now I don't....I recently ended up reading this book and I couldn't put it down....sounds crazy but it's true. Instead of being some guys opinions or......typical shrink talk that in no way could apply to each specific relationship.......I found it to be a book that opens up the mind to the understanding of love.....and how it is not this one universal "language" we all feel we should be the same with.....I once told her...."nobody taught me how to love, I'm growing....learning".....I pleased with her to understand I love her.......we simply didn't have an understanding of how and why we didnt approach love the exact same way as each other.....only makes sense that it should be the same right? You bicker and argue and it drives you crazy......why doesn't she understand you think.......the book is not an excuse to use or justify a true bad relationship let me add.....but it truly answers so many questions.....it is really a language of love. Once understood, this book leaves you feeling like a fool and only wanting to apply so much of what you've now learned to your future together. It takes away the work of trying to understand the things that at the time make no sense.....and allows you to focus on what's important....loving instead of wasting precious time. Read it carefully and I recommend reading it together.....I didn't get that chance but I can guarantee reading this book with who you love will allow you both to stop frequently throughout the pages and talk,learn,smile, probably cry.....but then go on to a much happier fulfilling life together once the book is closed. It can save so much if you only let it.*Update 12-1-17I drive a bus so I have nothing but time to think as I look out the window and look up at the sky looking around me. You would probably think of screaming kids and noise but for me it is driving in my own little world and using time to think about lifeI am a trainer so I spend my time trying to help people learn how to maintain their body and prevent problems. And the funny thing is that it is are very choices of what we do to our own bodies that I am teaching to have to change. All of our problems nutritionally and physically and even mentally come down too poor choice and repetitive habits that we know we need to change but never do until it's too late. Every single person reading this can relate to thatMy point about what I do is that I spend a lot of time trying to fix my body because professionals out there either won't take the time to do it or I don't have the money to spend on who is needed. I have spent countless months doing stretches and exercises and what I have found is a lot of times I'm doing the exact same stretches and exercises that don't seem to be working. Soooo......why not do different ones then right...... what a lot of reasons it may feel good, you may not know any other stretches or exercises, you may simply believe that if I just do it one more time again tomorrow....THAT it will finally help..... you just believe in that stretch so much that in your mind you just say I'll keep trying. You are maybe even making things worse by this but you're honest to God intentions are to completely cure one of the biggest problems in your life, pain...... I think you see where I'm getting at.Getting a little long for whoever is reading but there is a lot of meaning here that can help who knows thousands of people as long as this review remains online......I will just end it like this..... last night I took a stretch that I have been doing for over 2 years and I changed it in a slightly different way....... a lot of the pain I normally get daily is gone.......just to put a spotlight on that sentence .....I'm saying that what I had been doing for so long..... trying to cure one of the biggest problems in my life that hadnt been working............that I continued doing........ believing in and depending on.... to be my much needed answer.......It wasn't until I allowed the idea of the same stretch applied in a different way, that I ALLOWED life to be better for me.I did not say this stretch doesn't matter anymore and say forget it to never exist again.....no, I used it to COMMUNICATE with my body in the same exact physical form....just different language from mind to body....because I always believed in it.Belief can be amazing and help you....it also can be your own worst enemy when refuse to change your ways.....lots of time I lost believing my way instead of another.....all while would have given anything to accomplish my goal......once again I stood in my own way......but I didn't give up.....otherwise pain would still be here and I wouldn't have came on here to add all these thoughts.You have to go into the book with an open mind because if you do it with the mindset of wanting it to say what it is that you want to hear.....then you can never let the life-changing words happen.......you're learning a language as you read...not what's right and wrong but what was being lost in life.Keep in mind this is a book about the language of love so if you think about when you go to school to learn a different language...you are taking the difficult step of taking time there in order to understand.....be able to take what you understand and apply it.....and be able to communicate in a NEEDED way once you learn....AND THEN USE......communicate and UNDERSTAND eachother.Just think how you feel when you meet somebody and you want to communicate but you can't and you get frustrated. you are trying to figure out what you want the other person to know and they're trying to tell or show you..... it becomes stressful and sometimes you end up walking away from each other never knowing the real meaning that was right there between the two of you. When you are able to speak the same language this simply does not happen.....The same two people if we're able to learn the same language, could come back in front of one another again and.....just imagine......imagine the possibilities with that communication.......so much never lost again.The exact same message and the exact same feelings that were always there, except now instead of the stress of not understanding, there is the excitement for anything to be possible just by coming together and understanding.....The power of language is amazing........think of when you meet somebody and they're able to speak five or six different languages, you are in awe and wish you could do it.well imagine being able to speak the one language in life that is the most unexplainable, powerful language and meaning of life, love....I would also like to mention the fact that if these two people sat down and learn each other's languages together how helpful that is.....and how much easier it is to be able to learn how to communicate with the exact person that you're trying to ........spending time helping each other learn different languages.......TOGETHER.Bus is parked.

This has everything you could want/need in a calendar - days weeks and months all organized in chronological order for an entire year. The icing on the cake is that you get awesome pictures of One Direction.Tip - at the end of the month flip the page up for the next month.

I ordered this for my granddaughter for Christmas, and it is a total mess! There's no January or February, there's 2 each of March, April and May etc.... has the wrong boy's picture on their birthday month. It's a total wreck! To top it off, I paid full price for it and now it's half price! I believe Browntrout Publishers needs to have a better quality control to insure this doesn't happen again!

Great calendar, and both teens I bought this for loved it. The paper is a nice quality thickness and the pics are very colorful. My daughter will eventually dismantle this and use it as a bunch of small posters, I'm sure.

I know nothing about One Direction and that's what makes ME beautiful :) I bought this for my sister and she loved it! It's nice quality and she will definitely get 18 months of use out of it ;)

My 15 year old daughter loves these guys and the calendar is high quality and the photos look good. She will get this for Christmas and I know she will go crazy.Next year it will be someone else, as you parents know.
