I was unfamiliar with this writer until I loaned a book from hers from the library and she totally hooked me. Her way of writing is just so engaging that it's hard to put down the book. I enjoyed the fact that she mentions some of her favorite writers which made me curious to discover them as well. She has a clarity in her storyline and she's funny. I'm looking forward to read more of her books.

Una muy amena narración sobre el oficio del escritor, sus sueños, dilemas, conflictos y relaciones con la vida y la ficción. La loca de la casa es esa que va de un lado a otro cavilando historias que tiene que sacar por la puerta o por la ventana. La loca de la casa es esa que hace que la vida sea vivible.

I've never read an autobiography of someone I knew nothing about. I picked the book because of the strange little girl on the cover. It's an outstanding piece of workmanship. I have never read anything like it. I realized there was something unique going on when I read her description of an incident and then, pages on into the text, there it was again. The same incident described as if for the 1st time. And then, further on in the book, the same incident again. I was completely pulled in by this book. Not only were the incidents interesting but the words. She's a master at description.

En este texto que mezcla la novela, la autobiografía y el ensayo, Rosa Montero hace gala de un oficio narrativo y de una prosa que cautivan. Las reflexiones sobre la necesidad de la escritura, el proceso creativo y la vida del escritor se aderezan con interesantes y divertidas anécdotas de la propia Montero y de otros escritores.

Es un libro bien escrito, agil y con buenas imagenes y reflexiones. La historia de M., que se repite tres veces diferente, no me parece tan genial para ser el centro del libro ni ejemplo de las jugarretas de la memoria. Si bien demuestra de alguna manera su punto, creo que es una historia mediocre y cholula, tal vez elegida por ser un puntito interesante para los que les gustan las historias de famosos.Tiene un comienzo espectacular que promete ser un librazo y para mi, se le cae por el camino.
